2018 Spadafora 'Terrano' Calabria, Italy Rosso

Calabria is situated in southern Italy, effectively a large peninsula jutting out between the Ionian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Spadafora was founded in 1915 by Ippolito Spadafora, who made a name for himself by transforming the Magliocco grape, produced in the hills of Donnici, into an elegant and austere wine that was right at home on Italian dinner tables.

Today, Ippolito Spadafora is the owner of the family business, representing the fourth generation. “Commitment in the care of our vineyards, selection of the grapes during the harvest, vinification of the grapes in the cellar, the process of refinement and the evolution of our wines define what we do,” Ippolito says.

And today, it’s the Gaglioppo grape variety that helps set the winery apart. It’s made in a robust and rustic style that’s guaranteed to awaken the senses and transport you vicariously to southern Italy.
