About This Wine:
Whereas most Champagne is sipped solo, typically as a beverage of celebration, most Prosecco is consumed with food — part of the historic food-and-wine culture in Italy that endures to this day. So while most Champagne is enjoyed over the holidays and at special events such as weddings, Prosecco corks are popped throughout the year.
The Treviso DOC, where Montellini’s grapes are grown, is in the northern Italian region of Veneto. Originally, the grape used to make the wine was known as Prosecco (or variants such as Prosecco Tondo), but the name was changed to Glera in 2009 to protect the Prosecco name from international appropriation.
Glera is considered a semi-aromatic variety, and Prosecco wines are marked by a distinctively high acidity, which adds freshness and amplifies the zesty flavors of the grapes. Take a sip of the non-vintage Montellini Brut, then propose a toast to Prosecco.
