2020 Chalkstone 'Limited Edition Reserve' Edna Valley, California Pinot Noir

Only five miles inland from the ocean, expertly farmed vineyards of the Edna Valley thrive. Located south of the city of San Luis Obispo and north of the town of Arroyo Grande, Edna Valley is bounded by Lake Lopez to the south and Islay Hill to the north. It is both sheltered and shadowed by the Santa Lucia Mountains.

It’s an uplifted, sedimentary terrain, formerly part of the ocean floor, with soils consisting of chalk, loam, clay and dark humus. The subsoil is made of calcareous materials deposited by ancient sea life, resembling the subsoil of some of Burgundy’s most famous vineyards. No wonder the grapevines planted here are known for growing perfectly ripened Pinot Noir grapes that are transformed into world-class Pinot Noir wines.
