2019 Silver Pony 'Caspian' Dunnigan Hills, California Red Wine

While some wines are 100% varietal and others hail from a single region or even a single vineyard, “Caspian” is more like the result of an artist’s blank canvas. Imagine if you could select the grape varieties you wanted from any number of growing regions; that’s how “Caspian” was crafted.

Our tasting panel described the 2019 vintage as “a Bordeaux blend with a California twist.” Whereas a vast majority of Bordeaux wines are based on either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon, “Caspian” utilizes Petit Verdot as the primary variety, with about half as much Cabernet and about half as much Malbec completing the cuvee.

While rich and decadent, the wine also is in perfect balance, making it an ideal companion to beef dishes including steaks and spare ribs. It makes an artful addition to any meal or any occasion.
