2017 Mudd Mendocino, California Cabernet Sauvignon
A slightly rustic style provides a magnetic personality for this Cabernet from Mendocino County.
Country: United States
Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon
About This Wine:
It’s true geographically — situated above the more famous Napa and Sonoma winegrowing regions — and it’s also true of the people. In Mendocino, the winemakers are not afraid of embracing a more “rustic” style — one that shows off the flavors of the land, rather than filtering them out.
John Ray crafted the 2017 Mudd Cabernet Sauvignon, and he’s proud of where he practices his craft. “An extended growing season, long hot days and cool maritime-influenced nights combine to make Mendocino a world-class winegrowing region,” Ray explains. “The benchland vineyards from which we source our fruit offer soils with exceptional drainage and vines whose roots grow deeper than typical valley-floor vines, adding complexity to the fruit.”
Ray describes the Mudd Cabernet as “vibrant” and notes that “the palate is robust and intense, full of juicy dark fruit flavors The wine has a soft, opulent mouthfeel and finish.” We concur.
