2019 Les Charmes du Marquis 'Lot 22' Bordeaux Superieur, France

With more than 300,000 acres of land planted to grapevines, Bordeaux is massive. It’s the largest and, thus, most important wine-producing region of France. And while many of its more than 7,300 wineries release a single wine each vintage, some produce a handful of wines, pushing the appellation’s total well past 10,000.

Separating the best from the rest can be a daunting task. Ultimately, it requires some “insider” information that is shared by the vintners, combined with a lot of tasting. That’s how we uncovered the 2019 Les Charmes du Marquis, a blend of traditional Bordeaux varieties that’s packed with personality.

The cuvee marries an array of red, black and blue fruit flavors, joined by floral, spice and chocolate notes. A gold medal winner at the annual competition staged by the Union of French Oenologists, this is a truly magical wine.
