About This Wine:
It was the 1950s, and America was experiencing a post-War boom. In the Napa Valley, save for a handful of family-owned and farmed vineyards, the wine industry was still relatively young. One of the most widely planted grape varieties, coveted for its strength and assertive flavors, was Petite Sirah. A popular saying among winemakers was that “there’s nothing petite about Petite Sirah.”
Then came the 1960s, and things began to change. More and more Cabernet Sauvignon vines were being planted, and varieties like Petite Sirah were pushed out to neighboring areas such as the Lodi District. In ensuing years, Lodi has proven to be a perfect home for Petite Sirah, as the climate allows for full and even ripening.
The 2021 vintage from Old Train Depot is a quintessential Petite Sirah, brimming with lush berry flavors complemented by heavenly chocolate, spice and plum notes. If you’re a fan of strong cheeses, this is the full-flavored wine to accompany them.
