2021 Chalkstone California Vermentino
A medium-bodied beauty that delights both the nose and the palate with its mix of aromas and flavors.
Country: United States
About This Wine:
The varieties do share some common aromas and flavors, but they couldn’t be more different when it comes to their heritage and history. While many believe the grape originally came from Spain, there are significant vineyard plantings in many parts of the Mediterranean.
In fact, some of the best-known Vermentino wines come from the island of Sardinia, where the vintners embrace a crisp and citrusy style that is underscored by using no oak in the aging process. It’s also the most widely planted white grape on the island of Corsica, where more full-bodied and floral renditions are produced.
The 2021 Chalkstone Vermentino, crafted from grapes grown in a handful of California vineyards, splits the difference stylistically. It’s medium bodied, floral, fruitful and herbal, with a Sauvignon Blanc-like minerality. Looking for a wine to serve with vegetarian fare? Your search is over.
