About This Wine:
You guessed it: the 2016 Qupé Chardonnay, crafted from grapes grown in Block Eleven of the acclaimed Bien Nacido Vineyard in California’s Santa Maria Valley. Block Eleven was custom planted for Qupé in 1997 and is known for its high acidity and minerality, created by its north by northwest-facing hillside exposure.
The benefit of the vineyards being along the coast and running east-west is that the cold, moist air gets pulled in and creates a layer of morning cloud cover over the vines which reduces temperatures and sun exposure on the grapes. This extends the growing season, enhancing ripeness during the harvest.
After pressing, the grapes were fermented and aged in a mix of new and once-filled French oak François Frères Burgundy barrels. The finished product exhibits crisp citrus flavors and a viscous mouthfeel in a perfectly balanced, delectable package.
