Founded in 2003, (originally as Mariposa Wine Company) Cru Wine Company is a portfolio of handcrafted artisan style wines that embrace the incredible diversity of California’s premium viticultural areas. The Cru, Mariposa and Yosemite View brands each feature only the varietals that thrive in their respective regions; each label with its own unique character and focus.

Owner Richard Spencer has had a keen interest in fine wines for many years, a pastime cultivated with long-time family friend and partner Michael Conway. For these two entrepreneurs, the dream of owning a winery is now a welcome reality.

Based in Madera, California winemaking at Cru Wine Company is overseen by Winemaker Ken Post.  Centrally located in order to source from appellations ranging from Santa Barbara to Napa Valley, Cru strives to deliver quality and value at its respective price points.

About The Winemaker

Ken Post, a native Californian, began his career on the family ranch in Paso Robles. The Post family farmed 1800 acres of alfalfa and various grains until the ranch was sold in the late 70’s.  At that time, Ken pursued a second career in highway construction. His firm contracted with the State of California and private organizations in providing highway paving, resurfacing, and oiling services. While this was a very lucrative business, it allowed very little time for the most important thing of all, his family. Thus in 1997 Ken was presented an offer he could not refuse, selling the company.

Retired at forty might seem like a good thing to some people. Going from 60-80 hour work weeks to being at home 24-7 was an adjustment for Ken and his family.  Despite his knack for rearranging the spice cabinets and every other item in the house, his wife Julie and three children Brianna, Dylan, and Cameron started to ask Ken when he was going to find a real job.

With a passion for wine and love of farming, Ken enrolled in Fresno State’s Enology Viticulture program. After graduating from the Enology program Ken started his new ambition of wine production at Prospero Oak Hollow Wineries in Madera, California. Three years later Ken’s other passion of off road motorcycle riding forced another retirement for 10 months while he learned how to walk again after severely breaking a leg. Once healed it was time to once again pursue the passion of winemaking.
